Assaults noted at First Niagara: Inadequate security at issue?

First Niagara Pavilion proved to be a busy site for police and emergency responders last Saturday. According to at least one news report, the evening ended with at least two persons needing medical treatment and three people being arrested on assault charges in separate incidents.

That criminal charges are being pursued against the three individuals is a credit to authorities, but the nature of the issues that prompted the action might legitimately prompt questions about whether there isn’t a problem with inadequate security at the venue. Operators of such properties have the obligation to be sure their patrons are safe. If someone winds up being hurt because of negligence in that regard, it’s advisable to contact an attorney to explore options related to compensation.

As we’ve already noted, the incidents of alleged assault were all separate. In each case, alcohol is believed to have been a factor. In the first attack, authorities say that a 30-year-old man sucker-punched another concert-goer. The victim was knocked out cold and was bleeding when authorities arrived. The alleged attacker was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.

The second person taken into custody was cited after he tried to get in the way of officials trying to reach the first victim. He apparently tussled with officers as he was arrested.

The third arrest stemmed from an alleged confrontation in the parking lot. Police say a man pushed several people, including some women, because they were walking too slowly for his taste. When a man tried to step in and help, the suspect punched him and drew blood.

While the news story indicates that premises security was present at the venue, it apparently wasn’t enough to prevent some people from getting hurt.
