Fires or explosions around the holidays

Fires or explosions around the holidays are common in Western Pennsylvania. Generally, however, the fires and explosions that occur around the holidays happen in peoples’ homes when they are cooking or having a party; but fires or explosions can happen anytime, anywhere, including office buildings, construction sites, and other types of businesses.

On Sunday morning, an explosion or fire occurred at a Washington County car wash. According to authorities, at least two people were injured in the explosion.

According to reports, a supervisor at the Ducky’s Car Wash on East O’Hara Street in McDonald, PA was trying to light a boiler shortly before 10 a.m. when a gas leak caused the explosion. The supervisor and a customer experienced several burns to their faces, hands, and upper bodies. Both were rushed to UPMC Mercy to be treated. Police did not release the victims’ names.

According to first responders, firefighters had the fire under control in about ten minutes, but not before the explosion destroyed two of the car wash’s bays.
