Two Women Injured After Car Crashes Into Coraopolis Storefront
July 15, 2020
It was a harrowing scene at 2:00am this morning as a car crashed into a storefront in Coraopolis, PA. Police say that there were two women in the vehicle at the time of the accident who had to later be cut from the wreckage after becoming trapped inside.
Both women, whose names and ages have yet to be released, were transported to local hospitals to undergo treatment. Police reported that the impact of the crash was so severe that the vehicle shattered the storefront, causing debris and glass to fly everywhere. When it was found, the vehicle was inside of the Coraopolis building. The building has since been boarded up and neighboring businesses have spent the morning helping to clean up the leftover debris.
Currently, no word has been released as to what caused the accident or if negligence was at play. We will update our blog when more information is released.
Storefront Accidents Are Surprisingly Common
This is not the first time an accident like this has occurred in Pennsylvania. This is the third storefront crash our firm has reported in the past two years. In 2018, eight people were injured when a car plowed into the front of a salon after the driver of the vehicle suffered a medical emergency. In May of this year, a woman tragically lost her life after the vehicle she was in crashed into a convenience store in Butler County.
Approximately 4,000 individuals are injured in storefront crashes annually. Statistics from the Storefront Safety Council also show that approximately 60 vehicles crash into storefronts per day. But what’s causing these alarming rates? Is there anything that can be done to prevent them?
Causes of Storefront Accidents
According to the Storefront Safety Council, one of the most pressing causes of storefront accidents are the result of pedal error, most commonly when the driver steps on the gas by accident or is unable to brake fast enough. Other factors such as intoxication and driver distraction were the second most common causes of storefront crashes, with medical emergencies like the crash that took place in 2018, being less common.
